Project objectives:
The study involved building a comprehensive picture for passenger and freight mobility demand in Northwestern Italy using available information and direct surveys (including data from 40 traffic survey stations). The acquired information enabled the construction and calibration of a multimodal traffic model to support forecasting analyses. In a later stage, estimates of expected mobility demand for the medium and long term were developed, and four alternative design scenarios were defined and simulated using the model to derive transportation performance parameters. The study concluded with a multi-criteria analysis to identify the optimal scenario.
Output:
- Report on the results of the preliminary analyses.
- Performance analysis of existing transportation systems.
- Analysis of mobility demand on a large scale and in the study area.
- Estimation national and international freight and passenger mobility demand for the study area, in the medium and long term.
- Definition of possible design scenarios referring to different sets of infrastructure, rail and port interventions.
- Multi-criteria analysis for the definition of the optimal scenario.
