Project objectives:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of a new rail route connecting the City of Pogradec (Albania) and the Greek border, considering the current and future configuration of the railway network in the Balkan area. The study requires analyzing each transportation system in the Balkan area and Albania’s National Transportation Plan and developing a stakeholder engagement process. The finalization of the study also requires the use of large-scale traffic models and a cost-benefit analysis to assess the technical and financial feasibility of the intervention.

Output:

  • Report on the results of preliminary analyses.
  • Performance analysis of current Transportation Systems.
  • Analysis of the demand for Mobility on a large scale and in the focus area.
  • Definition of the Catchment Area and O/D relationships served by the new railway line, considering the future configuration of the international network.
  • Estimation of potential demand for the route and the entire area.
  • Cost Benefit Analysis of the project.
  • Assessment of the level of technical-economic feasibility of the project.
